What is AFJROTC?
The first Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) units opened in 1966. It was established by the Air Force from a program founded in 1911 by Army Lieutenant Edgar R. Steevers in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Air Force decided that JROTC would be a great fit for young adults in high school to learn citizenship and life skills; promote community service; instill a sense of responsibility; and develop character, leadership, and self-discipline through education and instruction in air and space fundamentals. AFJROTC Unit NJ-20172 began operations at Mount Olive High School in August 2017.
